Description of holdings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"submenu\">\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=975391\">Contacts<\/a><br>\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=797605\">Historical background<\/a><br>\r\n<a href=\"\/en\/?page_id=675601\">Finding aids<\/a><\/div>\r\n<h2>Description of holdings<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<p><b>Amount of holdings:<\/b> 2 433 fonds, 536 698 items (57 433 items from\r\nthe period before the mid-1941; 19 625 items from the Second World War).<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><b>Chronological scope: <\/b>from 1917 to the present.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><b>Geographical coverage: <\/b>the city of Mogilev and the Belynichi, Bykhov, Gorki, Dribin, Krugloe, Mogilev, Slavgorod, Chausy, and Shklov districts of the Mogilev region.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p><b>Contents:<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The Archives has amassed documents created by the provincial, region, district, town\r\nand village authorities, as well as records of various organizations in the fields of\r\neconomics, finance, laws, culture and education dating from 1917 to the present.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The fonds of the revolutionary committees, the Mogilev Province Executive Committee,\r\nand the Mogilev Province Revolutionary Tribunal contain documents throwing light on the\r\nfirst steps of Soviet power, the formation of the Red Army units intended to fight against\r\nthe German and Polish invaders, and the struggle against the internal counter-revolution,\r\nsabotage, and illegal price-fixing.\u00a0 <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The development of chemistry, machine-building and other industries in the city of\r\nMogilev and in the Mogilev region are reflected in the fonds of regional executive\r\ncommittees, factories and plants. There are materials concerning the technical and\r\neconomic cooperation between the Soviet Union and England (the fonds of the\r\n&#8220;Khimvolokno&#8221; plant of artificial fiber in Mogilev).<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The fonds of agricultural agencies and institutions contain data on the history of\r\nagriculture, in particular the reorganization of agricultural institutions, the\r\ndevelopment of cattle-breeding, flax cultivation and vegetable growing. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The fonds of public education, the Belarusian Agricultural Academy, and other education\r\ninstitutions illustrate the development of public education in the region, and the\r\nprofessional training of specialists in the field of economics. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The records of the Nazi occupation (1941\u20141944) hold data on the organizations that\r\ncarried out the economic and punitive policy pursued by the German authorities. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>There is a collection of records (created by the board of the State Security Committee\r\nfor the Mogilev Region) including data on 100 000 citizens who were deported to Germany,\r\nas well as the captured German cards for the Soviet prisoners of war who stayed in German\r\ncamps.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>There are data concerning the detention of the Soviet citizens in Auschwitz, Dora,\r\nStutthof and other concentration camps. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Of especial interest are the archival records illuminating the heroic defence of the\r\ncity of Mogilev in June- July 1941, the Nazi Occupation regime in the towns of Bobruisk\r\nand Mogilev, the places of forced detention for the civic population in the territory of\r\nthe Mogilev region. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The Archives keeps materials of the Mogilev Regional Commission for Assistance to the\r\nExtraordinary State Commission on Nazi Crimes and Damage in the Mogilev region, in\r\nparticular data on damage inflicted on the region&#8217;s economics, agriculture, church\r\nbuildings, and cultural institutions. <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Also, the Archives preserves the fonds of personal papers relating to the participants\r\nof the October Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War in Russia: V. S. Bulba-Pankov, V. P.\r\nGolionko, M. T. Panasevich; the participants of the Second World War V. D. Guzov, D. I.\r\nKorotchenko, M. N. Migai, M. I. Semin; delegates of the Supreme Council of the USSR S. V.\r\nMatiushevski, S. I. Sikorski; specialists in local lore I. I. Filippovich, D. M.; doctor, poet, member of the Union of Writers of the USSR, organizer of the radiation safety service of Belarus A.P. Melnikov.\r\nAbramovich; professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences I. V.
