The Project “The 1863-1864 Uprising in Belarus” is a special rubric on the \r\nArchives of Belarus website, an internet resource of the archives and RM \r\nauthorities and the state archives network in the Republic of Belarus, \r\ndedicated to the 150th anniversary of this historical event. <\/p>\r\n
Purposes of the project<\/b><\/p> \r\n
The project aims to show by means of documentary sources the situation in \r\nBelarus in the context of the 1863-1864 uprising and to make it easier for \r\ncitizens to access \r\nrecords held in the archives of the Republic of Belarus by creating in the \r\nInternet global computer network a more \r\ncomplete information picture on the subject. <\/p>\r\n
Structure of the project <\/b><\/p>\r\n
The rubric consists of three sections:\r\n
The exhibition shows 500 records and materials (their electronic copies) \r\navailable from the National Historical Archives of Belarus in Minsk, National \r\nHistorical Archives of Belarus in Grodno, Belarusian State Archives-Museum of \r\nLiterature and Art, Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound \r\nRecordings, National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, and Belarusian \r\nResearch Center for Electronic Records.\r\n
The exposition consists of 16 thematic groups illustrating different stages and aspects of the uprising. These \r\nilluminate \r\nthe events on the eve of the uprising, the situation in Belarus \r\nduring the uprising and after its suppression. Also, there are data relating to the commemoration of the \r\nuprising. <\/p>\r\n
The material is structured in two levels:

\r\n– List of records and materials, including their title, date (19th century \r\nrecords are dated in the Old Style), type, language and location index. Records and \r\nmaterials are arranged in chronological order. On the right are the links to \r\nview a full-size record.
\r\n
\r\n– Digital copies of records and materials. <\/p>\r\n
The bulk of the exposition are textual records \u2013 prints, typescripts, \r\nhand-written documents (originals and copies, in full and fragments). The \r\nmajority of texts are in Russian. A considerable part of data are in Belarusian (including \r\nBelarusian in \r\nLatin script). Some records are in Polish, with the translation into \r\nRussian or Belarusian. On display are the official records created by the \r\nparticipating sides (different structures of the tsarist administration and \r\nrelating to the activities of the insurgents). Also, there are personal records \r\n(memoirs, letters) of the participants in the events. <\/p>\r\n
The rest of the exposition are photographs mainly \r\ndepicting participants in the events and memorial sites. The sound and \r\nfilm records are presented in the form of fragments extracted from works of art. <\/p>\r\n
