The State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region celebrates 70 years since its foundation, 15 March 2010

On 15 March 2010, the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region held a ceremonial meeting celebrating 70 years since its foundation.

The Regional Party Archive (now the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region) was founded on 15 March 1940 at the Gomel Regional Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus to accumulate records of the Communist Party and Komsomol organs.

To celebrate this event, the Gomel archivists prepared a series of radio and television programmes, published articles in the Belarusian archival journal, Archives and Records Management and the regional newspaper, and hosted an exhibition of documents and photographs titled “Milestones of History in Documents and Persons”.

Among other events to mark this date, the Archive accessioned the personal collection of Vasily Denisovich Karpov, who directed the Archive from 1969 to 1983.

In addition, a special Archive Booklet was released, which highlights in chronological order the main stages in the development of this institution, one of the biggest archival repositories in the Republic of Belarus, with the most interesting documents relating to the Archive’s history, autobiographical data about its directors, and many photographs.
