Presentation of the collection of documents “Perpetuating the memory of motherland defenders and war victims in Belarus. 1941-2008” at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, 29 January 2009

Presentation of the collection of documents and materials titled “Perpetuating the memory of motherland defenders and war victims in Belarus. 1941—2008 ” will be held at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus on 29 January 2009.

The book, the first documentary edition about the burials of the Second World War, was prepared jointly by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus Administration for perpetuating the memory of motherland defenders and war victims. No similar editions are available in the neighbouring countries.

The book offers 95 documents, including the materials of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, the regional and local archives, the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, and the Archives of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus Administration for perpetuating the memory of motherland defenders and war victims. These documents, with few exception, have been published for the first time. The book is both of scholarly and practical significance. This includes Edicts by President of the Republic of Belarus and government resolutions for the years 1992–2008 and instructions issued by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus. The book is illustrated with painting reproductions, copies of documents and photographs.

The book is intended for historians and specialists in work for perpetuating the memory of motherland defenders and war victims. Also it will be of interest to the wider public.
