The Department for Archives and Records Management held a workshop on electronic records management and preservation

On 25 June 2019 the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry, on the basis of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, held a regular workshop on electronic records management and preservation for representatives of central government agencies and other government institutions subordinated to the Government of the Republic of Belarus, and the regional executive committees.

The senior officials of the Department, the Belarusian Research Center of Electronic Records and the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies took part at the workshop. The workshop participants got acquainted with new and already adopted normative and legal acts regulating issues of electronic recordkeeping and electronic records archiving systems.

S. V. Sobalevsky, Head of Protocol and Publishing Department at the Council of Ministers shared experience in interdepartmental interaction on the basis of the FlexEDoc electronic recordkeeping system.

N. V. Dubanevich, Head of Office Automation at the Data Computing Center of the Finance Ministry of the Republic of Belarus, told of the performance features of the electronic recordkeeping system at the Ministry of Finance.
Among the participants at the workshop were also developers of automated information systems (AIS). A. A. Menitskaya told of the upgraded version of the Electronic File AIS and its capacities. The specialists of the National Center of Electronic Services introduced the upgraded version of the Agency Archive AIS.

The workshop discussed issues related software, systems exchange formats, electronic filing, making of certificates for the disposal of electronic records with expired retention periods, copying of electronic records and their conversion to PDF files.

The government specialists were encouraged to study issues related to work with electronic records on the Archives and Records Management Journal, which gives much attention to the topic.

Training of the executive officers of government institutions is an important element in the transition to archival preservation of electronic records. Such workshops are now in the focus of attention and will be conducted on a permanent basis.

The next workshop is scheduled to be held in September 2019.
