The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus hosted a presentation of the Belarusian-Russian collection of documents “The Restoration of Agriculture in Belarus:1943-1945”
On 29 January 2019 the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB) hosted a presentation of the Belarusian-Russian collection of documents and materials “The Restoration of Agriculture in Belarus:1943-1945”.
The book includes 274 documents available from the Belarusian and Russian archives, including 105 items from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, 83 from the State Archives of the Russian Federation, 51 from the Russian State Archives of Economics, 18 from the Russian State Archives of Socio-Political History. Among the published documents are resolutions, protocols, reports, certificates, information, correspondence etc.
The book consists of four sections. The first section contains documents on the damage inflicted on Belarusian agriculture by the Nazi invaders. The other three sections are compiled by chronology. 1943 – the beginning of the liberation of the Belarusian SSR from the Nazi occupiers, the elaboration of the first decisions by the Belarusian Government and the Union Center on restoration of the rural economics in the liberated districts. In 1944 the Red Army with the support of Belarusian Partisans completely liberated the Republic from the Nazi occupiers. 1945 – the first year of peaceful labour in the liberated Republic. The restoration processes became more active in the western regions of the Republic and continued in the eastern regions.
The documents published in the first and second sections of the book are classified by chronology. The other sections include the thematic sub-sections. The scientific and reference materials include a historical preface and a preface on archival editing, text notes, comments, geographical and name indexes, list of abbreviations, and list of published documents.
A welcome word to the participants was made by Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Victor Kourash, editor-in-chief of the book from the Belarusian side. He noted that the book was prepared according to the Plan of Joint Actions of the Belarusian Department for Archives and Records Management and the Russian Federal Archival Agency.
During the event the participants acquainted with the originals of some published documents in a specially prepared exposition and a banner display of photographs “The Restoration of Agriculture in Belarus.1943-1950. A chronicle of events in photographs”, based on the documents from the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings.
