The Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art held the Seventeenth Archival Readings dedicated to the 125th anniversary of historian, archivist and writer Mikhas Mialeshka

On 26 May 2017 the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art (BGAMLI) held the traditional annual readings Uzvyshsha (Elevation) dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of historian, archivist and writer Mikhas MIALESHKA (1892-1941). The event included the exhibition “Mikhas Mialeshka. The life for the future”.

A welcome speech was given by Volga Birukova, First Deputy Director at the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus. Among the speekers at the event were Mialeshka’s granddaughter Natallya Spichko and Stanislau Rudovich, PhD in History, who delivered a report “Mikhas Mialeshka at the vortex of the 1917 Revolution: a view a century later”.

The celebration included a concert prepared by Mialeshka’s in-law relatives, guests from Saint-Petersburg: composer and concertmaster Natallya Spichko, her husband Honoured Artist of Russia, Vasil Spichko and their son Ivan Spichko, soloist at the Mikhailovsky Theater of St. Petersburg. They performed the famous arias from classical operas and works from N. Spichko’s vocal cycle after the texts written by Mikhas Mialshka during his exile to Samara in Russia.

The conference contained two sections. The first section was opened by film director and script writer Marta Klinava, who told about the new film dedicated to repressed writers. The other reports dealt with the life and work of Mikhas Mialeshka.

The second section was dedicated to the literary association “Uzvyshsha” (Elevation) and the literary process in the 1920s-1930s.
