The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus hosts an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945
On 20 June 2016 the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus hosted an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945. The event included the opening of the exhibition on the Great Patriotic War and the presentation of the documentary editions “Trostenets: Tragedy of Europe’s Peoples, Memory in Belarus”, “Camps of Soviet Prisoners of War 1941-1944” and the directory “Conviction of Foreign Prisoners of War and Internees in Belarus. 1941-1951 (Inventory of criminal files in Fonds 1363)”.
The exhibition on the Great Patriotic War presents archival documents and photographs available from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus. The exhibits illuminate the courage and heroism of the Red Army in the battles in the summer of 1941, show the role of the Republic’s leadership in organizing the evacuation of the population and material resources to the eastern areas of the Soviet Union, describe the formation of the Nazi Occupation regime in Belarus and the development of the Partisan and Resistance movement.
Of especial interest are the unique maps showing the location of German troops in the beginning of the war, the map of location of all Partisan units in Belarus, the scheme of renaming the streets in occupied Minsk, printed and handwritten editions of Partisans, posters, award certificates, cipher texts, orders etc.
