22nd International Conference Documentation in the Information Society: Problems of Standardization, Moscow

22nd International Conference “Documentation in the Information Society: Problems of Standardization” was held on 18-19 November in Moscow, Russian Federation at the conference hall of the Russian State Archives of Socio-Political History.

The Conference was organized by the Eurasian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURASICA), the Federal Archival Agency of Russia, the All-Russian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Science, with the participation of the Russian State University for the Humanities and the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists.

Participants at the conference were representatives from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The Archival Service of Belarus was represented by Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Science (BelNIIDAD) A. Rybakov.

The plenary session included seven reports. The work continued in two sections: Section 1 “Theoretical aspects of standardization in records management”; Section 2 “Practices of the development and use of standards”. The conference also included a round table “The professional standards and their influence on the training of specialists”. In all, over 40 reports were announced at the conference. A. Rybakov (member of the organizing committee) delivered a report “The creation, implementation and use of standards in the field of records management: Belarusian experience” (plenary session).

During the discussions the main focus was placed on the issues of standardization of records management processes in the conditions of electronic record keeping and harmonization of national standards with international standards.
