A lesson in patriotism dedicated to the liberation of the Loyew region was held at the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region

On October 16, 2026, as part of the «Archives for Schools» initiative, the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region hosted a patriotic event for students from Secondary School No.41 in Gomel. The meeting was dedicated to a significant historical milestone: the liberation of the Loyew district from Nazi invaders.

During the event, archivists provided the students with a detailed account of the legendary crossing of the Dnieper in the autumn of 1943, the operational and tactical strategies devised by prominent military commanders, and the extraordinary courage displayed by the Heroes of the Soviet Union who fought for the Loyew region.

The students showed particular interest in original archival documents detailing the history of the partisan and underground resistance movements in the area. They examined records concerning the composition and strength of partisan detachments and brigades, the personal files of Heroes of the Soviet Union, and unique firsthand accounts from those who took part in the liberation of the Gomel region.

As part of the program, the archivists screened the documentary film «Liberation», produced by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photograph, and Sound Documents.

The event concluded with a tour of current exhibitions featuring archival documents, as well as a guided visit to the archive’s storage facilities.
