The Director of the Belarusian State Film, Photo, and Sound Documentation Archive Participated in a Memorial Event Dedicated to Leonid Levin

On July 17, Andrei Nikolaevich Gonchar, Director of the Belarusian State Film, Photo, and Sound Documentation Archive, took part in the event «Remembrance Day of the Outstanding Architect L.M.Levin: Touches to a Master’s Portrait». The celebrations began with a visit to the memorial complex «To Children Victims of War» and the laying of flowers at the sculpture «Scorched Childhood». Tours of the memorial complex and the Museum «To Children Victims of War», located on its grounds, continued the memorial day.

A meeting entitled «Touches to a Master’s Portrait» was held at the Museum «To Children of War», during which A.N.Gonchar, Director of the Belarusian State Film, Photo, and Sound Documentation Archive, welcomed the guests and presented a commemorative gift to the Museum. The architect’s daughter, Galina Levina, representatives of the Leonid Levin Historical Workshop, and Kuzma Kozak, PhD in history and associate professor at the Faculty of History of Belarusian State University, took part in the commemorative meeting.

Leonid Levin is one of the Belarusian designers of memorial complexes and monuments, and a participant in the reconstruction of the historical center of Minsk. The theme of the Great Patriotic War occupied a special place in Levin’s work. His memorial complexes and ensembles, «Khatyn», «Breakthrough» in Ushachi, and the memorial complex «Children – Victims of War» in Krasny Bereg, are known beyond Belarus. In 2009, Levin was awarded the title of «Honorary Citizen of the Zhlobin District».
