85 years of sorrow and courage: a commemorative meeting was held in the National Historical Archive of Belarus

Today, June 22, 2026, the National Historical Archive of Belarus held a solemn meeting of the team dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

This date resonates with pain in the heart of every Belarusian. On this memorable day, archivists gathered together to pay tribute to those who were the first to take the blow of the enemy.

The meeting was opened by the director of the archive, Mikhail Glushakov. In his address to the employees, he emphasized that today archivists have a special responsibility. Their main task is to protect the truth, protect the memory of the great feat of our people and pass on this knowledge to the youth so that the terrible lessons of history are never repeated.

An important part of the event was the screening of the documentary film «Hero Fortress». This unique tape was created by colleagues from the Belarusian State Archive of Cinema and Photographic Documents. Footage from the old chronicle helped every viewer to feel more deeply the courage and resilience of the defenders of the Brest Fortress.

At 12:00, life in the archive froze for a moment. Under the measured and strict sounds of the metronome, the team joined the All-Belarusian minute of silence. In this silence, there was common sorrow for the millions of dead and deep gratitude for the peaceful sky over our country.

Such meetings remind us that the memory of the war is not just pages in textbooks. This is a living story that lives in every Belarusian family.
