Events for International Archives Week at the State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region

As part of International Archives Week, the State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region held a series of events to mark the occasion.

A ceremonial meeting of the staff was held in the reading room. During the event, Archives Director Irina Vladimirovna Zhineva expressed her sincere gratitude to the staff for their diligent and painstaking work, high professionalism, and dedication to their chosen profession. Key aspects and future prospects for developing international cooperation were also outlined, including the participation of archivists in online conferences and joint events to exchange experiences.

During the Open Day, citizens received expert advice on the main areas of the State Archives’ activities.

The festivities continued with the national campaign «Archives for School». Students from the Gomel State Culinary College visited the State Archives. The students learned about the history of archival science in Belarus, the stages of its creation, its structure, and key functions.

A film lecture was organized for the students, as well as a visit to the current exhibitions of archival documents and photographs: «Girls in Protective Uniforms» (dedicated to the Year of Belarusian Women) and «Traces of Chernobyl: Archival Evidence» (dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident).

A key part of the festive week was the traditional Mentoring Day, aimed at sharing professional experience with young professionals. Experienced State Archives staff explained in detail to their young colleagues the procedure for accepting documents for permanent storage, the procedure for verifying the presence and condition of files, as well as the methodological principles and criteria for conducting document value assessments. The practical part of the event took place in the State Archives laboratory, where a training workshop on document repair and restoration was held for young professionals.
