BGAMLI Participates in the Presentation of N.V. Trus’ Book «Yakub Kolas at Paryzhy. 1935»

On May 28, 2026, E.A.Makarenko, Director of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art, participated in the presentation of «Yakub Kolas at Paryzhy. 1935» by Nikolai Valentinovich Trus, a researcher of Belarusian literature and a friend of the archive-museum.

The presentation took place within the walls of the memorial museum where Yakub Kolas lived and worked. Representatives of «the Belarus Publishing House», the editorial board of «Rodnaye Slova», prominent Belarusian figures, and others came to congratulate the author. E.A.Makarenko also spoke about the role of archival institutions in preserving historical memory, as archival materials from the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art and the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (Moscow) were used in writing the book.

The book is a unique archival reconstruction of the Belarusian classic writer’s visit to the French capital for the International Congress of Writers for the Defense of Culture. It features not only Yakub Kolas’s speech, translated into Russian, French, and German, but also a number of unique visual materials—photographs, letters, and notes from that period—that offer a fresh look at two of the writer’s essays about his trip to the French capital and a panoramic view of this significant event in the world’s cultural life.
