On the presentation of an exhibition dedicated to the heroic deed of V.N.Karvat at the State Archives of the Brest Region

On May 23, 1996, Vladimir Nikolaevich Karvat, a first-class military pilot, lieutenant colonel, and head of air and fire training at the 61st Air Base stationed in Baranovichi, Brest Region, died during a training flight while diverting a falling aircraft from a populated area. By Decree No.484 of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated November 21, 1996, Vladimir Karvat was posthumously awarded the title «Hero of Belarus» for courage and heroism displayed in the line of duty. Vladimir Nikolaevich became the first Hero of Belarus.

The State Archives of the Brest Region has prepared an exhibition of archival documents dedicated to Vladimir Karvat.

The exhibition features archival documents, periodicals, and open-source materials related to the heroic deed of V.N.Karvat and perpetuating his memory.

On May 22, 2026, 10th-grade students from Brest Secondary School No.8 named after Hero of Belarus V.N.Karvat viewed an exhibition of archival documents.

The students also took a tour of the archive, including a visit to the archival storage facility and the document repair and restoration laboratory.

As part of the event, the documentary film «Hero Fortress», produced by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, was shown.
