Reviving History: Days of Remembrance at the Gomel Region Public Association Archives for Victory Day
In the lead-up to Victory Day, the State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region held Days of Remembrance dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Soviet people’s victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Students of the Gomel State College of Consumer Services and the Gomel State Machine-Building College were treated to a screening of the documentary film «Hero Fortress», produced for the 85th anniversary of the defense of the Brest Fortress by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents with the support of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.
Authentic archival documents were presented to guests, including reports on damage caused by the Nazi invaders, memoirs of the city’s defenders, and personal files of members of the Gomel People’s Militia Regiment. These valuable materials illuminated the fates of Heroes of the Soviet Union—natives of the Gomel region—whose voices brought history to life and recalled the heroism and sacrifices of those who fought for the freedom and future of their homeland.
The Days of Remembrance concluded with a visit to the «Girls in Protective Uniforms» exhibition of archival documents and a tour of the archives, where each student had the opportunity to connect with history, remember their heroism, and pay tribute to those who defended the peace and independence of our country.
