The War Passed Through Their Hearts

On the eve of the eighty-first anniversary of Victory Day, the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BSAMA) presents the virtual exhibition «The War Passed Through Their Hearts. The Memory of World War II in the Works of Belarusian Literary and Art Figures and Participants». The war left a wound in the hearts of the entire Belarusian people, and each participant could express this in their own way. Creative figures, including those who directly participated in the fighting and performed their professional duties on the front lines, have become the voice of social memory in modern society. Their statements, works, and recollections reflect the moods at different stages of the war and the memory of the war years in the postwar period.

Among the literary and artistic figures whose documents were selected for the exhibition are the poet, journalist, and partisan Mikhas Vasilek; the future national poet and writers Arkady Kuleshov, Ivan Naumenko, and Vasil Bykov; the sculptor Sergei Selikhanov; the singer Larisa Aleksandrovskaya; the film director and cameraman Nikolai Sadkovich; the poet-turned-intelligence officer Alexei Zaritsky; and others.

The virtual exhibition «War Passed Through Their Hearts» was created not only for online display. BGAMLI staff present it during public meetings, dialogue platforms, and film lectures.
