The Zonal State Archives in Slutsk held a career guidance lesson and discussion, «My Choice – My Profession: Archivist»

On May 6, 2026, as part of a career guidance program at the Zonal State Archives in Slutsk, a lesson and discussion, «My Choice – My Profession: Archivist», was held for 10th-grade students of Secondary School No.1 in Soligorsk.

During the meeting, Archives Director I.A.Borodina explained that the archive not only stores documents but also actively works with them, ensuring their accessibility and use in the public interest, and fulfilling the tasks and functions of acquiring, recording, storing, and using documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus. In today’s world, archive staff are actively implementing digital technologies to preserve documentary heritage and ensure accessibility of archival information through information systems and thematic databases.

To ensure widespread use of documents from the National Archival Fund in the context of digital transformation and to meet the growing demand for archival information from the state, society, and citizens, an information system has been established: the Open Access System for Documents of the National Archival Fund (SODD NAF).

To supplement this system with information, archivists are actively digitizing documents. The most in-demand documents related to the state sector are being converted to electronic form.

A screening of the documentary film «Hero Fortress» was also organized for students. It was prepared for the 85th anniversary of the defense of the Brest Fortress by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents with the support of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.

Before the screening, students were introduced to the history of the defense of the Brest Fortress and the heroism of the Soviet soldiers who bore the brunt of the Nazi invaders.

The event concluded with a tour of the archive and archival storage facility.
