Participation of the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents in the Roundtable Discussion «Assessment of the Value of Audiovisual Documents and Their Acquisition in State and Municipal Archives»

On April 24, 2026, the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents (hereinafter referred to as BGAKFFD) participated in the roundtable discussion «Assessment of the Value of Audiovisual Documents and Their Acquisition in State and Municipal Archives», organized by the Federal Budgetary Institution «All-Russian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Affairs» via videoconference.

More than 130 representatives of state archives from 30 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, four federal state archives, as well as representatives of archival institutions from the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan participated in the roundtable discussion in various formats.

In his opening remarks, P.A.Kyung, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Science and PhD in History, emphasized the importance of studying the interactions between archives and acquisition sources, as well as approaches to value assessment in the current era.

Representing the Belarusian State Film, Photo, and Sound Archives, the roundtable was attended by A.N.Gonchar, Director of the Archives, and L.V.Dubatovka, Head of the Department for the Formation of the National Archival Fund.

L.V.Dubatovka presented a paper entitled «Acquisition of Audiovisual Documents for the State Archives: From the Experience of the Belarusian State Film, Photo, and Sound Archives», in which she shared her experience in acquiring the archive. The replenishment of the archive’s collections with audiovisual documents is based on systematic selection, value assessment, and scientific description of documents, as well as collaboration with acquisition sources—government agencies, organizations, and individuals who donate materials for permanent storage.
