A staff meeting of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation to mark the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster
On April 25, 2026, a staff meeting was held at the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation to mark the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
Acting Director of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation Grigory Stepanovich Zholnerkevich delivered an opening address to the staff.
Grigory Stepanovich recounted the tragic events of April 26, 1986, focusing on their consequences for Belarus.
The main part of the meeting was a speech by Boris Borisovich Chikilevsky, Head of Administration at the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation, a witness to the tragic events of 1986. Boris Borisovich shared his memories of the Chernobyl disaster cleanup and the subsequent monitoring of radiation-affected lands with those present.
Concluding the meeting, Grigory Stepanovich detailed the Belarusian government’s efforts to restore lands affected by the Chernobyl disaster. Outlining specific figures, Grigory Stepanovich drew attention to the reduction in contaminated areas and the reduction in radionuclides in agricultural products.
The results of the state program to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster for 2021-2025 were also highlighted.
Having praised the Belarusian government’s efforts to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, Grigory Stepanovich expressed hope for the speedy and complete restoration of the affected areas and urged respect and gratitude to all those who participated in the cleanup.
