An exhibition dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Zmitser Byadulya’s birth opened at the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI)

On April 23, 2026, the reading room of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BSAMLI) hosted the grand opening of the exhibition «Iago is rich in treasures», dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of the classic Belarusian literary figure, Zmitser Byadulya.
BSAMLI Director Elena Aleksandrovna Makarenko delivered an introductory speech, emphasizing the significance of Zmitser Byadulya as one of the founders of modern Belarusian literature, as well as the importance of archivists’ work in continuing to search for, preserve, and study documents related to his life and work.
The event’s guest of honor, Z.Byadulya’s son, Efim Samuilovich Plavnik, shared little-known facts about his famous father’s life with those presenting the archive-museum, along with valuable gifts related to the memory of Z.Byadulya and his family.
N.N.Shapran, Editor-in-Chief of the journal «Rodnae Slovo», presented the April issue of the publication dedicated to Z.Byadulya and discussed new research and discoveries in the scientific community that had recently been conducted and presented in the journal.
A.V.Zapartyko, Honorary Archivist, spoke about the history of a unique document in the BGAMLI library collection—a self-adhesive book made by Z.Byadulya himself—and drew researchers’ attention to the possibility of studying it.
Exhibition curator N.A.Mizon introduced everyone to the documents on display at the «Iago Riches of Film» exhibition, focusing on the most valuable: letters from Z.Byadulya to friends and colleagues from the 1910s to 1940s, as well as letters from M. Plavnik-Byadulya to M. Lynkov during the war.
Leonid Dranko-Maisyuk‘s poetic improvisation revived the audience’s impressions and inspired a new reading of long-familiar works by Z.Byadulya. Poet L.Dranko-Maisyuk also presented a valuable gift to the BGAMLI collection – a book by Z.Byadulya.
