A Unified Information Day dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster was held at the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno.
In the lead-up to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, the Zonal State Archives held a Unified Information Day on the topic «Chernobyl: From Revival to Sustainable Development».
Archive Director I.Z.Pudakevich addressed the participants with opening remarks. She noted that archival documents today serve not only as a repository of historical memory but also as a reliable educational tool. «Four decades later, Belarus has traveled a difficult path from emergency response to systemic recovery and transition to sustainable regional development. State policy aimed at minimizing the consequences of the accident has proven its effectiveness: revived communities, clean produce, modern healthcare, and the country’s energy security are all the results of coordinated efforts», the archives director emphasized.
Archivist Maria Mechkovskaya prepared a thematic presentation based on the collections of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno and the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus. The presentation featured documents and digitized photographs documenting the phased rehabilitation of contaminated areas.
The program concluded with a screening of the documentary film «Chernobyl: Chronicles of a Tragedy», provided by the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents (BSACFD). The film evoked an emotional response from those present and served as clear evidence that the experience of overcoming the disaster laid the foundation for the development of strong regions and the country’s energy independence.
