Trade Union Weekend Tour: NIA Belarus Employees Visit the Narochansky Bereg Sanatorium

Employees of the National Historical Archives of Belarus spent the past weekend, March 27-29, in one of the country’s most picturesque corners — the Narochansky Bereg Sanatorium.

The wellness trip was organized by the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Workers of State and Other Institutions as part of the «Weekend Tour» program.

The Narochansky Bereg Sanatorium is located on the shore of Lake Naroch, Belarus’s largest and most picturesque body of water, in the heart of Narochansky Park. The unique pine forest, pure, healing air, and clear water contribute to the unique microclimate of this area.

The recreational program was aimed at recuperating and improving the health of the employees. Tour participants enjoyed the resort’s key wellness treatments. Speleotherapy sessions in a specially equipped salt room helped strengthen the immune system and cleanse the respiratory system. Relaxation sessions using natural essential oils (aromatherapy) helped relieve emotional stress and improve overall well-being.

In addition to medical treatments, a rich excursion program was organized for participants. The highlight was a visit to the Nanosy-Novoselye ethnocultural complex.

During the tour, archival staff learned about the authentic life of the Belarusian gentry and peasantry of the 19th century. They visited a watermill and a windmill. They also had the opportunity to see an amazing collection of samovars, truly impressive in its diversity and history. Of particular interest was the local stable—a veritable equestrian club, housing rare horse breeds such as Dutch Friesians, Latvian horses, and Hanoverians. Participants were able to not only see graceful animals but also learn about the traditions of equestrian shows, which are the hallmark of the complex.

Such trade union initiatives have become a long-standing tradition, allowing archival workers not only to change their surroundings and improve their health, but also to gain a powerful boost of energy, a wealth of positive emotions, and new experiences among colleagues.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Employees of State and Other Institutions for the opportunity to participate in the weekend tour!
