Lessons for students of V.V.Babko Secondary School No.12 in Grodno as part of the «Archives for Schools» campaign at the State Archives of the Grodno Region
On March 26, 2026, as part of the «Archives for Schools» campaign, the State Archives of the Grodno Region held a lesson on «The Tragedy of the Civilian Population during the Great Patriotic War» for 9th-grade students of V.V.Babko Secondary School No.12 in Grodno.
Archives staff explained the contents of the documents and the institution’s main areas of work; they also showed the students documentary materials from the German occupation authorities: records of prisoners of war held in German camps, work IDs of citizens sent to work in Germany, and IDs of ghetto prisoners. The students were presented with documents from the Regional Commission for the Investigation and Establishment of Crimes and Atrocities of the Nazi Invaders: damage reports, eyewitness testimonies, and lists of exterminated citizens and settlements.
At the end of the lesson, the students visited the archives, where they learned about the storage conditions, composition, and content of the documents, and also visited the Document Digitization and Restoration Department.
