Interregional Cooperation: The Zonal State Archives in Zhlobin Participated in the Roundtable Discussion «We Need One Victory», Organized by the State Archives of the Pskov Region

On March 12, 2026, employees of the Zonal State Archives in Zhlobin participated in an international online dialogue. The roundtable discussion, «We Need One Victory. The Contribution of the Peoples of the USSR to Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945», organized by the State Archives of the Pskov Region, brought together those for whom preserving the truth about the war is a professional duty.

Svetlana Chikileva, Lead Archivist of the Department of Records, Preservation, and Use of Documents, presented a paper entitled «Zhlobin in Flames. The Battle of the Dnieper in July 1941».

In July 1941, near Zhlobin, the Soviet 63rd Rifle Corps, under the command of Corps Commander L.G. Petrovsky, accomplished the impossible: they crossed the Dnieper River, struck the flank, and recaptured the city, thwarting the enemy’s plans for an offensive on Moscow.

Specifically for the meeting, software engineer Margarita Feller prepared and demonstrated a visual presentation detailing the chronicle of those heroic events, brought to life in each slide.

This is the story of how, here on our soil, the first hope for a great Victory was forged.

The full version of the presentation, «Zhlobin in Flames. The Battle for the Dnieper in July 1941», is available for public use and study.
