On March 10, 2026, employees of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) visited the Chabad Synagogue (from Hebrew חב»ד – «wisdom», «understanding», «knowledge»), a representative of one of the Hasidic movements in Belarus.
Considering the large number of collections of figures of Jewish origin at BGAMLI (actors Judith Aronchik and her husband Mark Moin, Sofia Drucker (and her husband, cultural figure Girsha Pragin), Rita (Reveka) Mlodek, and others; cultural figure Faina Aller (and her daughter, theater scholar Klara Kuznetsova); composers Heinrich Wagner, Mark Schneiderman, and others; writers Grigory Berezkin, Pavel Kobzorevsky (Favia Gordon), Lazar Katsovich, Naum Kislik, Moisey Kulbak, Ales (Aizik) Kucher, Arkady Movzon (Aron Movshenzon), Isak (Aizik) Plater, Grigory (Girshy) Reles, Izya Kharik, and others; artists Lev Leitman (and his daughter Fruma Leitman), Lazar Ran, Semyon Shkolnikov (and his son-in-law, assistant director of Minsk theaters Alexander Sagalchik), and others; musicologists Isidor and Sima Nisnevich, art historian Sender Polees, and others; visiting these centers of Jewish life allows for a more complete understanding of the culture of these representatives, the context in which particular works of art were created, and, through this, a more accurate description of the collections.
