Preserving the Memory of Afghanistan: Molodechno Archivists Visit the Museum of Internationalist Soldiers
In the lead-up to Remembrance Day for Internationalist Soldiers, Molodechno archivists visited the People’s Museum of the Military Glory of Afghan Warriors, which operates in Secondary School No.14. The exhibition is dedicated to those who fought in the Afghan War and endured the harsh trials of combat. It features photographs, documents, personal belongings, and materials that help preserve the memory of their fellow countrymen’s heroism.
The museum’s director is Igor Arabey, a veteran of the war in the Republic of Afghanistan, a recipient of the Order of the Red Star, a retired colonel, and a public figure. He not only carries out extensive work to preserve historical memory but is also the founder of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno. In 2025, his personal collection was created, comprising approximately 200 items, including his prestigious awards and certificates, membership cards, photographs from war zones, and other materials that provide a deeper understanding of the life and public activities of the museum director.
The meeting was initiated by the district branch of the public association «Belaya Rus». Its leaders believe that such events serve as a kind of «immunization» against amnesia, foster respect for those who fought far from home, and help recognize the value of historical memory and civic responsibility.
