Collaboration between the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region and the Belarusian State Archives of Film and Photographic Documents (BSAKFFD) continues
Historical memory is a key mechanism for shaping national identity, ensuring the continuity of generations, social cohesion, and the transmission of cultural values. It serves as the foundation for understanding the present and future, allowing us to learn from the past and avoid tragic mistakes.
Archival documents play a key role in achieving this. Therefore, the archives’ work in educating the public using historical sources is so important.
Audiovisual documents always make a special impression on listeners. This is confirmed by the «Open Film Archive» project, which is being conducted in the republic under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Department of Archives and Records Management. The project is based on materials from the Belarusian State Archives of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, which, thanks to the talent and professionalism of the BSAKFFD staff, are being transformed into unique documentary films.
To expand cooperation within the Open Film Archive project and identify materials on the history of Vitebsk, staff from the Vitebsk Regional State Archives and the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union M.F.Shmyrev, a partner of the State Archives, visited BGAKFFD. Based on the selected materials, work to popularize the archival heritage will continue.
The archivists express hope that this joint work will further strengthen the ties between the archives.
