History Through Documents and the «School of Active Citizens»: Archivists from the Zonal State Archives spoke about the post-war reconstruction of Molodechno

On December 23, the state educational institution «Secondary School No.12 in Molodechno» hosted an event for students in grades 8-11 as part of the «School of Active Citizens» informational and educational project. The event focused on the theme: «Being a worthy citizen of the Republic of Belarus means knowing and respecting the history of your country and the Belarusian people». As part of the event, archivists Olga Berezovskaya and Maria Mechkovskaya from the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno spoke about the city’s post-war reconstruction.

«The post-war reconstruction of the BSSR was a large-scale process of rebirth from ruins. Everything that was done during this difficult period was the first step in healing the deep wounds left by the war on Belarusian soil», – noted archivist Maria Mechkovskaya.

At the first post-war session of the City Council on November 14, 1944, a decision was made to revive Molodechno as quickly as possible. Overcoming the devastation, rebuilding the national economy as quickly as possible, boosting the economy and culture, and ensuring prosperity and a decent standard of living for citizens—these were the tasks facing the country’s leadership during that difficult time.

Despite the scale of the destruction, the city was rebuilt and significantly expanded its boundaries.
