An event held as part of the «Archives for School» campaign for students of the Petkovichi Secondary School in the Dzerzhinsky District

On December 23, 2025, as part of the national «Archives for School» campaign, staff from the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents held a lecture and film screening at Petkovichi Secondary School for students in grades 8 and 11.

The theme of the meeting was the heroism of those who created frontline photo and newsreels. The students viewed wartime photographs—rare photographs from the early stages of the Great Patriotic War from the collection of V.I.Arkashev, and footage from the end of the war taken by A.M.Bogomolov in Czechoslovakia. The students were particularly interested in footage from «partisan» newsreels shot behind the front lines in 1943-1944. Camera operators Maria Sukhova and Iosif Veinerovich captured footage related to the partisan operation «Zvezdochka» (Star) to evacuate children from the Polotsk orphanage to the mainland.

The «School Archives» campaign aims to increase students’ interest in history and demonstrate how the work of an archive contributes to the preservation of their country’s history.

At the end of the lesson, the children were shown the film «The History of the Great Victory», and thanked the staff for the engaging event.
