The Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus has found a new home

On December 3, 2025, a grand opening ceremony for the new building of the Economic Court of Appeals was held in Minsk. The symbolic red ribbon at the entrance to the building was cut by Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus V.O.Sukalo, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Belarus O.I.Chupris, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee V.E.Kukharev, and Minister of Justice of the Republic of Belarus E.I.Kovalenko.

This event is of particular significance for the archival sector of our country, as the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the editorial office of the journal «Archives and Records Management» will now be located in a modern, state-of-the-art building in the city center.

In his speech, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, E.I.Kovalenko, noted that «Our archivists play a vital role in preserving historical memory in Belarusian society, fostering civic responsibility and patriotism, and preventing the falsification of history. We are pleased that the new building has been allocated space for the Department of Archives and Records Management».

The second part of the ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, A.G.Turchin.

In his report, «Archives – a System of Society’s Memory», the Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, O.L.Voinov, outlined the current state of the archival industry, the main areas of activity of the republic’s archival institutions, the progress of acquiring the National Archival Fund, and the importance of building new archival repositories in this process. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus particularly noted such significant achievements by archivists as exceeding the five-year target for digitizing archival documents and modernizing the open access system for documents of the National Archival Fund.

Of great importance for preserving historical heritage and educating the younger generation are the active exhibition activities of Belarusian archives (they organized 1,298 exhibitions between 2021 and the first nine months of 2025), the creation of documentaries and the implementation of publishing projects, the national «Archives for School» campaign, which annually hosts over 1,000 events, and special projects for teenagers—the media marathons «Without Statute of Limitations: Unconquered» and «Archival Bulletin».

The photo documentary exhibitions «The Formation of Belarusian Statehood» and «The History of the Archival Industry» were also presented to the event’s distinguished guests.
