On the participation of Anastasia Artemyeva, Chairperson of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM) and the Gomel Regional State Archives, in the historical quest «Memory Quest: Gomel»
On November 25, 2025, on the eve of Gomel’s Liberation Day from Nazi invaders, the historical quest «Memory Quest: Gomel» was held. This quest is a joint initiative of the Department of Belarusian History at Francisk Skaryna Gomel State University and the Gomel City Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM).
The event was organized for the city’s working youth and brought together representatives of work collectives from all districts of Gomel. The quest was organized to popularize the theme of the war, so that everyone remembers their roots, their history, and so that every Gomel resident knows their heroes.
The quest began on November 25 at 10:00 AM at the Monument to Underground Anti-Fascists at the mass grave (Pesina Street). Participants walked through the city’s most important historical sites:
Memorial in honor of underground hero Roman Illarionovich Timofeyenko (55 Pesina Street);
Monument to the soldiers who liberated Gomel (Vosstaniya Square);
Memorial to Hero of the Soviet Union Grigory Kirillovich Denisenko (38 Sovetskaya Street);
Monument to the Lizyukov brothers (Victory Square);
Monument to the Komsomol heroes (intersection of Karpovich and Zharkovsky Streets).
Anastasia Artemyeva, an archivist in the Department of Records Management and Formation of the National Archival Fund and Organizational Archives, Chairperson of the BRSM branch of the Gomel Region State Archives, and a graduate of the Faculty of History and Intercultural Communications, represented the Novobelitsky District Committee of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union and the Gomel Region State Archives in the historical quest.
Participants met at the G.Kh.Vashchenko Art Gallery to summarize the historical quest. All participants received commemorative prizes and certificates.
At the end of the event, a Lesson of Courage was held for guests and teams: gallery staff presented paintings by Belarusian artists depicting the events of the war and the heroism of the people, which helped to further understand the historical context of the points along the route, as well as video footage on the theme of war and the heroism of our people.
