Participation of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI) in the Unveiling of a Memorial Plaque to Writer A.A. Savitsky
On October 29, 2025, E.A. Makarenko, Director of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI), and O.F. Shatalova, Head of the Department of Scientific Description of Personal Documents, took part in the unveiling of a memorial plaque to writer and World War II veteran Aleksandr Anufrievich Savitsky at 11 Yanka Kupala Street. The ceremony was organized by the Union of Writers of Belarus in conjunction with A.A. Savitsky’s family.
Aleksandr Anufrievich was born on January 8, 1924, in Polotsk, to the family of a career Red Army officer. During the Great Patriotic War, he fought in the «Death to Fascism» partisan detachment, and from 1943, he commanded a sabotage group of the «Bolshevik» partisan detachment of the Voroshilov Brigade in the Vitebsk region. In 1944–1945, A.A. Savitsky served in the regular army during the liberation of Lithuania and Poland, and in the battles for the capture of Berlin. He was wounded three times. After demobilization, he worked for the editorial board of the Polotsk newspaper «Balshavitsky Stsyag».
In 1958, he graduated from the Literary Institute in Moscow, then completed postgraduate studies. Alexander Anufrievich has been engaged in literary work since 1943. He is the author of 10 novels, 13 novellas, and numerous short stories. Among them: «The Trail of the First», «The Fall of the Mountain», «Believe and Praise», «Only Admirable», «The Land Does Not Tell», «Let Not Wait», «The Passion of the Everlasting», and others.
A.A. Savitsky has been a member of the Writers’ Union of the BSSR since 1961. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st Class, the Red Star, the Badge of Honor, the Order of Glory, 3rd Class, the Francysk Skaryna Medal, and other medals. For his trilogy «Dzivosy Lysai Gary», the writer received the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus.
Participation in the unveiling of the A.A. Savitsky Memorial Plaque is a tribute by the Belarusian State Academy of Literature and Art to the writer and man who made a great contribution to the culture of our country.
