Presentation of the popular science book «Photography in the Belarusian Lands of the 19th – Early 20th Centuries», prepared by the National Historical Archives of Belarus, held at the National Library of Belarus

On October 16, 2025, the National Library of Belarus hosted a presentation of the popular science book «Photography in the Belarusian Lands of the 19th – Early 20th Centuries». The publication was prepared as part of the «History for Schoolchildren» series by the National Historical Archives of Belarus with the support of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.

The book is a popular science study devoted to the formation and development of photography in modern-day Belarus in the pre-revolutionary period. Using archival materials, it traces the evolution of photography from its earliest experiments to its widespread adoption as a mass phenomenon. During the event, Deputy Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus Sergei Ryndin discussed the stages of the book’s creation and the specifics of identifying old photographs, and answered questions from the meeting participants.
