Joint meeting of the boards of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation

On October 1, 2025, a forum of heads of state archival services and archival institutions from Belarus and Russia opened in Gomel. The two-day dialogue aims to expand cooperation between the two countries, coordinate joint activities, pool efforts to preserve historical and documentary heritage, and strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties.

Before the forum, Ivan Ivanovich Krupko, Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, met with Oleg Leonidovich Voinov, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, and Andrei Viktorovich Yurasov, State Secretary and Deputy Head of the Federal Archival Agency. The meeting discussed archival and record-keeping issues in the two countries, and highlighted prospects for cooperation between the archival agencies.

A joint meeting of the boards of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation was opened by Department Director O.L. Voinov and State Secretary and Deputy Head of Rosarkhiv A.V. Yurasov.

The key agenda item addressed the challenges and prospects of working with electronic documents. Presentations were given by Andrei Evgenievich Rybakov, Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Science, and Pavel Alekseevich Kung, Director of the All-Russian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Science. The speakers noted that significant work has been carried out in this important area in both countries in recent years. There has been a rapid increase in the arrival of electronic documents in the archives. At the same time, the bulk of the electronic documents received are audiovisual.

State Secretary and Deputy Head of Rosarkhiv Andrei Viktorovich Yurasov commended the work of their Belarusian colleagues in using archival documents related to the history of the Great Patriotic War. He stated that all such projects contribute to our shared historical memory.

During the meeting, the draft Joint Action Plan of the Department of Archives and Records Management and the Federal Archival Agency for 2026-2028 was approved.

Following the conclusion of the board meeting, O.L. Voinov noted that the joint meeting confirmed the high level of cooperation between the archival services of Belarus and Russia and became an important platform for discussing strategic objectives in the context of the digital transformation of archival affairs.

The forum will continue on October 2, 2025, in Rechitsa.
