The National Archives of Belarus Participates in the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference «Archives and Genealogy»
On September 25, 2025, Olga Karaffa-Korbut, Head of the Thematic and Genealogical Research Sector of the Document Use, Information, and Publication Department of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, participated remotely in the VIII International Scientific and Practical Conference «Archives and Genealogy», organized by the National Archives of the Republic of Karelia. The event took place in Petrozavodsk, in the conference hall of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia.
The conference featured papers by scholars, archivists, and genealogists from the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Uzbekistan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Altai Krai, the Republics of Bashkortostan and Karelia, and the Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Murmansk, Oryol, Nizhny Novgorod, Novgorod, and Samara regions. Participants included federal archives (the Russian State Archive of the Navy and the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art) and the Scientific Archive of the Russian Academy of Arts.
Conference participants examined a wide range of issues related to the use of archival documents in genealogical research, the source base for genealogical research, pre-Soviet and Soviet sources on biographies and genealogies in archives, libraries, and museums, traditional and modern methods of genealogical research, and searching for information on war veterans.
O.Karaffa-Korbut presented a paper entitled «Passports as a Source for the Genealogy of Foreign Nationals (Based on Documents from the Minsk Governor’s Office Foundation NIAB»), in which she described the genealogical potential of this type of source for research on the family history of foreign nationals.
