On the internship of employees of the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents» in the Federal State Institution «Russian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents» and the State Film Fund of Russia

On September 3-6, 2025, in accordance with the Cooperation Plan between the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation for 2025, an internship was held for employees of the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents» (hereinafter referred to as BGAKFFD) on issues of ensuring the safety and digitization of audiovisual documents in the Federal State Institution «Russian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents» (hereinafter referred to as RGAKFFD) and the State Film Fund of Russia. The chief custodian of the funds M.D.Romanova and the head of the laboratory G.A.Burkovich took part in the internship from BGAKFFD. As part of the programs of the BGAKFFD employees’ stay, various areas of film archive activities were discussed. During the meeting, the experience of Belarusian and Russian archival institutions in working with audiovisual documents was presented.

The most discussed issues were the state of archives of audiovisual documents, problems of describing film, photo, and sound materials, the need and methods of restoring film and photo materials, storing documents, and strategic paths for further development.

During the discussion, the issue of the need to expand inter-archival cooperation in technological issues related to the digitalization of the industry was raised.

During the meeting with Diana Karimovna Mashtakeeva, Advisor to the Director General of the Russian State Film Fund, issues of international archival cooperation were considered. In particular, the participation of BGAKFFD in film festivals, joint conferences, and interactive projects was discussed.

During the work in the RGAKFFD and the Russian State Film Fund, BGAKFFD employees studied the existing material and technical base, technological processes, and the experience of foreign colleagues in ensuring the safety of documents, their systematization, and description.
