Initiation into archivists – 2025

On September 5, 2025, a solemn event was held at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter — NARB) — the dedication of young specialists graduated in 2025 to archivists. 30 children joined the republican archival institutions as archivists, researchers and software engineers, for whom working in the archive was their first job.

The event began with an interactive quest tour, during which young specialists got acquainted with the main activities of archival institutions: acquisition, preservation of documents, their digitization, use and system of scientific reference apparatus. The guys easily completed the tasks in each area of work.

In the next part of the dedication, the archivists met with the heads of the republican archival institutions (hereinafter — RAU), who presented their archives. The young specialists were addressed by: Director of the NARB A.K.Demyanyuk; Director of the National Historical Archive of Belarus M.M.Glushakov; Director of the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photographic Documents (hereinafter – BGAKFFD) A.N.Gonchar; Deputy Director of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation G.S.Zholnerkevich; Director of the Belarusian Scientific Research Institute of Documentation and Archival A.E.Fishermen; A.A.Paplevka, Deputy Director of the Belarusian Center for Digitization of Archival Activities; S.I.Mezga, Deputy Director of the Central Laboratory for Document Preservation of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus; and V.V.Adamchik, editor-in-chief of the Archives and Records Management journal.

After that, young specialists were photographed with the industry leadership, RAU directors, and honored guests.

In the main part of the event, O.L.Voinov, Director of the Archives and Records Management Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, delivered a report «On the state of archival affairs in the Republic of Belarus in 2025». He noted the growth dynamics of the main indicators in the industry, and elaborated on the issue of using archival documents. An important place in the report of the Director of the Archives and Records Management Department was given to the issue of strengthening the material and technical base of archival institutions. In conclusion, O.L.Voinov informed those present about the work carried out in the industry with young people. He stressed the importance of providing full support to young professionals and involving them in the social and cultural life of archival institutions.

In her speech, Zh.V.Sivets, Head of the organizational department of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Employees of State and Other Institutions, spoke about the role of trade unions in protecting workers’ rights and called on young professionals to actively participate in public events. Graduates of 2025 were also awarded union membership cards.

S.N.Shendik, Head of the Department of Personnel Policy and Ideological Support of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, congratulated the students on an important and significant event in their lives – their entry into the professional path, and also stressed the importance and importance of youth participation in the public life of institution collectives and the industry as a whole.

The dean of the Historical Faculty of the Belarusian State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor A.G.Kokhanovsky and Vice-rector for Ideological and Educational Work of the Euphrosyne Polotsk State University, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor A.I.Korsak addressed the young archivists with parting words.

The archivist of the publications Department, M.L.Trubilo, responded from the young specialists. She thanked those present for their support and noted the strong corporate spirit of the archivists. Maria Leonidovna emphasized the great responsibility that archivists bear in preserving historical Memory and justice.

All participants of the dedication were presented with memorable gifts from the leadership of the archival industry, the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus and BelVEB Bank.

Cultural support for the event was provided by teachers and students of the NARB-sponsored secondary school No. 77 named after D.M.Karbyshev.

The event was held in a warm and informal atmosphere. Becoming an archivist has become a good tradition in the industry. We are waiting for new young specialists in the archival institutions of our republic.
