Opening the pages of history: International Archives Week in Zhlobin

During the week, the institution «Zonal State Archive in Zhlobin» held events dedicated to the International Archives Week. Its opening was the vernissage of the exhibition «Your fellow countrymen are famous for their feat», prepared based on the personal documents of the participant of the Great Patriotic War, labor veteran, Vasily Petrovich Khaletsky.

A training seminar was held for representatives of organizations of the Oktyabrsky district on the topic «Expertise of the value of documents. Drawing up an act on the allocation for destruction of documents and files that are not subject to storage» with a sightseeing tour of the archive.

As part of the «Archives – to school» campaign, a thematic lesson «My homeland Belarus in faces» was held for 7th-grade students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.5 of Zhlobin».

On International Archives Day, the state archive of the city of Zhlobin opened its doors to everyone. As part of the «Open Doors Day» campaign, free consultations on archive services were organized for citizens — specialists were happy to answer questions, help navigate the documents, strengthening trust and interest in preserving documentary heritage.

Particular attention was paid to young visitors — they had a fascinating lesson «Learning More About Archives». In a playful way, the children got acquainted with the basics of the archive’s work, learned how important documents are stored and why it is so important to treat history with care. This lesson was not only educational, but also inspiring for future keepers of memory.

The events held emphasized the importance of archival institutions as keepers of the people’s memory and a source of knowledge about the past.
