Participation of BGAMLI in the memorial evening «A Film Reel as Long as Life», dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the film director, screenwriter, teacher V.D.Rubinchik

On April 24, 2025, the director of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) E.A.Makarenko took part in the memorial evening «A Film Reel as Long as Life», dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Soviet, Belarusian and Russian film director, screenwriter, teacher Valery Davidovich Rubinchik in the Pobeda cinema with the participation of famous figures of Belarusian cinema.

V.D.Rubinchik was born on April 17, 1940 in Minsk, in the family of the musical and theatrical figure David Isaakovich Rubinchik. In 1962, he graduated from the directing department of the Belarusian Theatre Institute and in 1969, from the directing department of VGIK. He worked as a director at the Belarusfilm studio, and since 1990, at Mosfilm. He taught at VGIK. In 1999, V.D.Rubinchik headed the film and television directing workshop at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow, and since 2004 he has been the dean of the film and TV directing department at this university. He passed away on March 2, 2011 in Moscow. He directed more than two dozen feature films, including Red Agitator Trofim Glushkov, The Lion’s Grave, The Last Summer of Childhood, The Wild Hunt of King Stakh, and many others.

The evening was hosted by Antonina Alekseyevna Karpilova, PhD in Art History, Associate Professor and Head of the Screen Arts Department of the Center for the Study of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The general director of Kinovideoprokat V.M.Karachevsky and the general director of the National Film Studio Belarusfilm D.S.Semenov addressed the participants of the event with welcoming speeches. The director, actor and screenwriter, Honored Artist of the BSSR V.A.Nikiforov, sound engineer D.S.Mors and others shared their memories of working with the film director V.D.Rubinchik. The guests of the event were shown the film «Wreath of Sonnets», shot by V.D.Rubinchik in 1976 based on the story by Viktor Muratov «We Fled to the Front».
