On the event held by the State Archives of the Gomel Region as part of the Archives to School project dedicated to the Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus

On March 12, 2025, Senior Researcher of the State Archives of the Gomel Region Maya Valentinovna Vaschenko held a lesson at the educational institution Gomel State College of Builders dedicated to the state holiday Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus, which is celebrated annually on March 15.

Before the demonstration of the documentary film by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents dedicated to the history of the creation of the basic law of Belarus, Maya Vaschenko spoke about the latest additions and amendments to the Constitution adopted as a result of the republican referendum on February 27, 2022.

In a conversation with students, she especially emphasized that it is important for the younger generation to understand the essence and meaning of the Constitution in order to form an active civic position, comply with the laws of their country and respect national traditions. She also answered questions about the rights of citizens. Every adult citizen must know their civil, political and other rights and freedoms and the duties of the individual to the state. The duty of the state is to implement and protect the rights and freedoms of the individual.

One of the amendments to the Constitution on ensuring the state’s preservation of the historical truth and memory of the heroic feat of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War is especially relevant in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over fascism.
