Opening of the exhibition project «For a peaceful sky!»
On February 27, 2025, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the exhibition project «For a peaceful sky!», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
This is a large-scale joint project involving: the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter referred to as NARB), the Belarusfilm film studio, the Belarusian Union of Artists, the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, the Vileika Museum of Local History, the Volozhin Museum of Local History, the Oktyabrsky District History and Culture Center of Gomel, the Zaslavl Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, the Kobrin Military History Museum named after A.V. Suvorov; the Lyuban Museum of People’s Glory; The Mogilev Regional Museum of Local History named after E.R. Romanov, the Museum Complex of History and Culture of the Orsha Region, the Slutsk Museum of Local History, the Begoml Museum of National Glory, and the Minsk Regional Museum of Local History are the organizations that presented exhibits that are informative and important for preserving historical memory.
The presented archival documents and a range of objects allow us to immerse ourselves in the selfless resistance of the first months of 1941, the inhuman bloody everyday life of the occupation regime and genocide, and the valiant path of the heroes-liberators through Belarus to the West.
The exhibition features archival documents, personal belongings and awards, items of «trench art», articles and essays from the war and post-war period about exploits on the battlefields. The works of Belarusian artists have preserved the memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War for decades: the genocide of the Belarusian people, partisan and underground resistance, and everyday life at the front. Such significant events as the Battle of Moscow, the Battle of Stalingrad, the Kursk Bulge, Operation Bagration and others are reflected through the prism of literary and documentary works.
The exhibition presents a rich collection of artifacts that tell about the military feat of the Soviet people, about the people who, at the cost of incredible efforts and their own lives, won the Great Victory and ensured peaceful skies overhead for many generations.
The opening of the exhibition was addressed by the Deputy Director General – Director for Ideology, Socio-Cultural and Publishing Activities of the National Library of Belarus L.Yu.Vysotskaya. Deputy Director of the NARB, PhD in History S.V.Kulinok in his speech noted the importance of preserving archival documents for future generations and introducing them into scientific circulation, and also emphasized the great joint work of the NARB and the National Library of Belarus to preserve historical memory.
