Participation of BGAMLI in the V Readings in Memory of Archpriest John Grigorovich (1792-1852): Historian, Philologist, Archaeographer

On February 20, 2025, Director of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) E.A.Makarenko took part in the plenary session of the International Scientific and Practical Conference «V Readings in Memory of Archpriest John Grigorovich (1792-1852): Historian, Philologist, Archaeographer», dedicated to the 900th anniversary of the Spaso-Euphrosyne Convent in Polotsk, the 800th anniversary of the Holy Eliseevsky Lavrishevsky Monastery and the 555th anniversary of the appearance of the Zhirovitskaya Icon of the Mother of God. The conference was organized by the Department of Church History and Church-Practical Disciplines of the Minsk Theological Academy named after Kirill of Turov of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

The readings were opened by Archimandrite, Rector of the Minsk Theological Academy, Candidate of Theology, Associate Professor Afanasy (Sokolov).

The conference participants were greeted by Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Veniamin, Dean of the History Department of the Belarusian State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor A.G.Kokhanovsky, Chairman of the Slavgorod District Council of Deputies of the Mogilev Region S.A.Yezerskaya.

Plenary reports were given by the head of the department of church history and church-practical disciplines of the Minsk Theological Academy, candidate of historical sciences, professor V.A.Teplova, archimandrite, rector of the Minsk Theological Academy, candidate of theology, associate professor Afanasy (Sokolov), archpriest, vice-rector for scientific work of the St.Petersburg Theological Academy, candidate of theology, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Konstantin Kostromin, archpriest, secretary of the Gomel diocesan administration Georgy Alampiev and associate professor of the Minsk Theological Academy, candidate of historical sciences Alexander Gronsky.

The main goal of the conference was to understand the spiritual and cultural heritage of the monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church, the significance of Orthodox monasteries in the history and modern life of Russia and Belarus, as well as a wide range of issues in the history of the Orthodox Church, the current state of archeography and the scientific heritage of Archpriest John Grigorovich.
