Presentation of the exhibition dedicated to the 95th anniversary of Rostislav Yankovsky in BGAMLI

On February 5, 2025, the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) hosted a presentation of the exhibition «At the Holy Footlights: Great Patriotic War on the Theater Stage…», dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the outstanding actor, People’s Artist of the USSR Rostislav Ivanovich Yankovsky. The exposition was presented by leading archivist Tatyana Aleksandrovna Anpilogova, who revealed to the guests the presented materials from the actor’s personal collection – photographs of Yankovsky in roles and texts of roles performed by the actor; photographs of scenes from plays and films with his participation; memories and reviews; certificates of honor, gratitude, congratulations from state institutions and officials of Belarus and Russia.

The event brought together admirers of Rostislav Ivanovich’s talent, his colleagues and friends. Among the guests of honor were the artistic director of the Gorky National Academic Drama Theater (hereinafter referred to as the Gorky NADT) Sergei Kovalchik, as well as actors who worked with Yankovsky on the same stage: Anna Malankina, Oksana Lesnaya, Veronika Pleshkevich and Andrei Senkin. Close friends of the family also honored the memory of the actor: film scholar, former director of the Minsk International Film Festival «Listapd» Valentina Alekseyevna Stepanova, head of the musical department of the Gorky NADT Aleksey Yerenkov and director Valentina Yerenkova.

The director of the BGAMLI Elena Aleksandrovna Makarenko gave a welcoming speech. She spoke about the archive’s cooperation with the Yankovsky family and emphasized the uniqueness of the materials presented at the exhibition.

The evening passed in a warm, sincere atmosphere. The actors shared their memories of working with Rostislav Yankovsky, talked about his exceptional talent, humanity, sense of humor. Their words became a living testimony to the enormous contribution of Rostislav Ivanovich to Belarusian art and the memory of him as a wonderful person.

The exhibition at BGAMLI is an opportunity to touch the creative legacy of Rostislav Yankovsky, see rare photographs, letters, documents reflecting his bright life and talent.

The exhibition is open to visitors in the reading room of BGAMLI.
