Opening of the documentary exhibition «The Golden Age of Belarusian Cinema»

On December 23, 2024, the opening of the documentary exhibition «The Golden Age of Belarusian Cinema» took place in the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

The exposition was prepared by the National Archives in cooperation with the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm», the Museum of the History of Belarusian Cinema, and the National Historical Museum.

Belarusian cinema is a significant layer of Belarusian culture, which includes the best cinematic phenomena of the past in the modern cultural context and popularizes the latest achievements of domestic filmmakers. Belarusian cinema today occupies an honorable place among other forms of art. A significant number of films have been created that have received well-deserved recognition at the national and international levels.

The exhibition presents original archival materials showing the origins of Belarusian «cinematography» in the 20-30s. XX century, rare photographs of famous domestic directors, screenwriters and actors who created unique artistic images that have forever entered the golden fund of Belarusian cinema. The exhibition tells about those who are behind the scenes – cameramen, production designers, decorators, without whose work there would be no cinema. At the exhibition you can see artifacts, many of which have never been exhibited before: costumes, props for iconic films – what made Belarusian cinema famous all over the world. Particular attention is paid to films that deservedly entered the golden collection of domestic and world cinema. The exhibition project displays exhibits related to such cult films as «Girl Seeks Father», «The Wild Hunt of King Stakh», «Black Castle Olshansky», «The Adventures of Buratino», «White Dews», «Anastasia Slutskaya» and others.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by: Chief Engineer of the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm» A.P.Kifaruk, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus S.I.Sukhovey, Director of the Honored Collective of the Republic of Belarus of the Film Actor’s Theater-Studio of the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm» A.V.Stebakova, Scriptwriter of the film «Demonstrator» N.I.Razumovskaya, Writer, Editor-in-Chief of the «Letopis» Studio of the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm» V.V. Moroz, Head of the Branch of the Museum of the History of Belarusian Cinema V.Yu.Sebrukova, Film Director E.K.Setsko.

All those present at the event were able to watch the first film of the film trilogy «Demonstrator», filmed in the anniversary year and hear wonderful songs from Belarusian films performed by actors of the Honored Collective of the Republic of Belarus of the Film Actor’s Theater-Studio of the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm» Artem Davidovich and Violetta Krivonos.

The exhibition, dedicated to the history of Belarusian cinema and new projects of the National Film Studio «Belarusfilm», reveals the theme of the origin, features of the development of national cinema in the context of various historical stages of our country, and also reflects the processes and dynamics of domestic cinema at the present stage.
