Mortality from external causes: a round table on the prevention of injuries and fatalities in winter was held at the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno

Winter is the time when the number of accidents related to weather conditions increases. Slippery roads, low temperatures and poor visibility create dangerous conditions for both pedestrians and drivers. In addition, during this period the risk of accidents on water bodies increases, which also requires special attention from security services. The use of stove heating and electrical appliances in the winter fire hazard period carries its own risks.

How to prevent mortality and injuries from external causes was recently discussed in a round table at the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno. Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and OSVOD took part in it.

Opening the event, the director of the archive, Inna Pudakevich, noted: «One of the main state tasks is to ensure demographic security. But mortality from external causes stands in the way. According to WHO, more than 5 million people die every year in the world as a result of injuries and other accidents. Some of them, such as natural disasters, are difficult to influence, but there are also those that are seasonal and can be prevented».

Marina Goncharova, Senior Inspector of the Propaganda and Training Group of the Molodechno City and District Department of Emergency Situations, presented statistics on incidents in the district and showed a film about the main causes of emergencies. By the way, the most common is smoking in bed. She also reminded how to behave in an emergency in administrative buildings and households, how to work with a fire extinguisher and self-rescuer. In the pre-holiday period, she also focused on the rules for using garlands at work and at home, as well as the dangers posed by pyrotechnics.

In turn, the chairman of the Molodechno district organization of OSVOD Anatoly Petyushik noted: «In most cases of death on water bodies in winter, ice fishing enthusiasts, children left unattended, as well as those who neglect the advice of rescuers and go out onto weak, loose and unstable ice. In emergency situations, it is very important to remain calm, get rid of fear, and assess the situation as a whole». Not knowing what to do to save themselves, a person falls into a stupor or panic, followed by despair. This is why OSVOD representatives conduct explanatory work among the population. Being ready for decisive and skillful actions means saving your life. During the event, Anatoly Mikhailovich taught the archive employees how to use rescue equipment, and handed out memos and booklets to everyone.

The participants of the meeting delved into the problem, actively asked questions, and also agreed: in the prevention of mortality from external causes, interaction between various services and organizations is important for the effective solution of problems related to safety. Joint efforts can significantly reduce the number of accidents and make the winter months safer for all citizens. It is important to remember that safety is a common task that requires the attention and responsibility of each of us.
