Exhibition of documents at the National Historical Archives of Belarus dedicated to Lawyer’s Day
On December 2, 2024, an exhibition dedicated to Lawyer’s Day, which was celebrated in our country on December 1, opened at the National Historical Archives of Belarus.
The exhibition presents documents from the 16th – early 20th centuries, reflecting the development of legal proceedings in the Belarusian lands during the periods of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Russian Empire. The oldest document dates back to 1597. This is an entry in the register of the Brest Zemstvo Court on the beginning of judicial sessions. The exhibition also presents documents of zemstvo and city courts, the Minsk Criminal and Civil Chambers, the Minsk District Court and a number of other various documents. Deputy Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus for Research Sergei Ryndin spoke about the history of the legal system and the profession of a lawyer in the Belarusian lands of the 16th – early 20th centuries.
