LAWYER’S DAY

On November 29, 2024, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus hosted the opening of a documentary exhibition dedicated to Lawyer’s Day and prepared by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

On the first Sunday of December, Belarus annually celebrates Lawyer’s Day in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of March 26, 1998 No.157 «On state holidays, public holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus».

The establishment of this holiday is a tribute to people who guard the rights and legitimate interests of citizens, recognition of the merits of all those who have dedicated their lives to legal activity so necessary for the state. Being a lawyer is a great honor and a great responsibility. No area of activity can function without legal support.

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presented at the exhibition documents from the 1920s on the formation of justice bodies; a list of legal literature available in the People’s Commissariat of Justice; digital information on the composition of legal institutions of the BSSR; the first orders of the People’s Commissariat and reports of the leaders, as well as personal documents of justice workers: certificates, questionnaires, mandates, referrals to the congress of justice workers, etc. The seal impressions, corner stamps of the republican and local justice authorities have been preserved. Some documents reveal the complexities of the work of lawyers during the Great Patriotic War. The State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents presented photographs reflecting the main stages of the formation of the legal system.

The employees of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus got acquainted with the exhibition.
