Book and documentary exhibition «Mikhail Lynkov. Generous, human talent». On the 125th anniversary of the writer’s birth

On November 27, 2024, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus together with the National Library of Belarus opened a book and documentary exhibition «Mikhail Lynkov. Generous, human talent», dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the prose writer, children’s writer, critic, literary scholar, public figure and People’s Writer of Belarus Mikhail Tikhonovich Lynkov. Documentary sources and publications from the collection of the National Library of Belarus, presented at the exhibition, reveal various aspects of Mikhail Lynkov’s activities, reflect the close connection between the author’s life path and his writing work, and show a wide genre range of works.

The exposition opens with a thematic section «Life Paths of Mikhail Lynkov». Through the presented copies of archival documents and publications, he appears as a thoughtful and insightful observer of life, its direct participant. Writer Lynkov lived an active creative and social life. He wrote stories, worked on the military-historical novel «Memorable Days» about people’s avengers, headed a writers’ organization, went to sessions of the United Nations as a diplomat, met with voters and carried out their instructions as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR, participated in many events, trips, meetings.

«The Writer and His Heroes» – this is the name of the second section of the exhibition. The exhibited materials testify to the fact that Mikhail Lynkov is a chronicler of the heroic Soviet era, a bard of courage, labor feat and moral magnificence of the Soviet man. A recognized master of artistic words, Mikhail Lynkov significantly enriched Soviet literature, left a special deep mark on it. But even today’s readers are interested in his works, as they contain information on the history of everyday life and the development of social thought among Belarusians.

A special place in Mikhail Lynkov’s work is occupied by works for children. Talent and skill, as well as a deep knowledge of a child’s personality and the ability to write irresistibly, do not leave young readers indifferent even today. The stories «Mikolka the Steam Engine» (1937), «About the Brave Warrior Mishka and His Glorious Comrades» (1937), the story «Yanka the Parachutist» (1937) and other works by the writer are popular.

The book and documentary exhibition gives a wide range of interested readers and library visitors the opportunity to get to know the work of the outstanding writer Mikhail Lynkov better.
