Opening of the exhibition «Belarusian Cinema through the Lens of Mikola Gnisyuk. To the 100th Anniversary of Belarusian Cinema»
Employees of the Belarusian State Film and Photo Documentation Archive – Deputy Director E.M. Grinevich and Head of the Department for the Formation of the National Archival Fund L.V. Dubatovka took part in the grand opening of the exhibition «Belarusian Cinema through the Lens of Mikola Gnisyuk», which took place in the art gallery «University of Culture» on October 15, 2024. The exhibition will be open to visitors until October 29, 2024.
The founders of the exhibition are the Belarusian State Film and Photo Documentation Archive and the Belarusian Union of Cinematographers.
The photo documents used in the preparation of the exhibition were provided to the Belarusian State Film and Photo Documentary Archive by the widow of the photographer Mikola Gnisyuk, Nadezhda Nikolaevna Maidanskaya, a documentary film director and screenwriter, creator of the film «Photographer». This film, which became a tribute to the memory of M. Gnisyuk, is at the same time a contribution to the preservation of his creative heritage.
All the documents presented at the photo exhibition were donated to the Belarusian State Film and Photo Documentary Archive and represent a photo collection that includes photographs of representatives of the Belarusian Soviet cinema and theater – Stefania Stanyuta, Vladimir Gostyukhin, Svetlana Sukhovey, shots from the filming of famous feature films such as «Come and See», «Breath of Thunderstorm», pictures taken during the All-Union Film Festivals in Minsk in 1970 and 1985. The total number of photo negatives and photo slides transferred to the archive funds is more than 180 storage units. The photo collection will be an excellent and valuable addition to the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus.
Mykola Gnisyuk is also known for his work with the most famous representatives of world cinema and pop music, including Marcello Mastroianni, Milos Forman, Robert De Niro, Sophia Loren and many others. The transferred documents, received by the archive for state storage, will help preserve the memory of the great master for future generations.
For fans of cinema and photography, this exhibition is a significant event, providing an opportunity to touch the facets of M. Gnisyuk’s work, to see the relationship between the art of photography and cinematography.
